AND THEN There Were Purple People Eaters

I've been trying to read some Emily Dickinson recently, since I have a whole book of her stuff. I like the style and stuff, but... it's so confusing... "imps raffling for my soul"... deep sounding stuff... but just how deep?? Gah. Maybe I'll understand as I read more. (And as I actually look up words in the dictionary...)

Today my dad told me he was looking through my old dictionary from the 30's and looked up "weird". Turns out, the definition is to do with supernatural bewitching and stuff. And even now, handy dandy m-w tells me that the first definition of the adjective is "of, relating to, or caused by witchcraft or the supernatural", with only the second definition being the most common use today, "of strange or extraordinary character". And you know what I said when my dad told me that, without even thinking? "That's weird." :)
