Insane Doesn't Even Mean Stupid

Yes. Even sane people can be stupid. What made me think of this? STUPID PEOPLE.
Today on my way walking home from color guard practice, I picked up 36 pieces of trash.

0) 11 pieces were not recyclable.
))) 4 of these were plastics that could possibly be recyclable, though unknown.
))) 6 of these were fireworks.
))) 1 of these were in reusable condition.
0) 25 pieces were recyclable.
))) 21 of these were in reusable condition.
))) 18 of these I actually fished out of the TRASH can.

What does my data tell me? That people aren't smart. In other words, EVEN THE SANE PEOPLE ARE STUPID.
0) It tells me that pleasure is put before planet. (Over half of non recyclables were fireworks that could have been cleaned up.)
0) It tells me that many do not follow the "REDUCE, REUSE, *THEN* RECYCLE" rule. (22 items were in reusable condition.)
0) It tells me that although some people *may* have good intentions by throwing away things, they do not feel the need to take the extra ounce of effort to find a recycling bin. (Over half of the recyclables were fished out of a TRASH can.)

People are stupid in other ways too. These are things recently noticed
0) Leaky faucets left untended to.
))) If you actually put a bucket under a leaky faucet, it accumulates a lot of water.
0) Watering lawns at 4 in the afternoon.
0) Leaving electronics on without using them.
))) Turn it off, or better yet, unplug it.
0) Taking a home lunch in a bag and throwing it away.
))) Get reusable items.
0) Taking long showers.
))) If you want to be in the water that long, take a bath. If you plugged the bathtub while you showered, how much water would you use?
0) Littering.
))) How hard is it to take it to a trash can or recycling bin?
0) Ignorance.
))) Have you noticed how many of the problems in the world are caused mostly or in part by ignorant humans?

This actually does mean a lot to me, as you can probably tell.
I got a few weird looks from people when I was walking home with my trash. But it's worth it, as long as everyone gets a message out of this.

  1. Thank you, one person... Hopefully other people feel the same way and are just not saying anything.
