I just got back (two hours ago counts, right?) from Oakcrest, and I just have to say that it was amazing! It was far better than I thought it would be! The food was very good (an amazing accomplishment for a camp), the lessons very touching (I cried), and the people absolutely amazing!!
I especially have to say that Stickers (my counselor) was amazing! She was very supportive, and although at times necessary she was serious, she really could get hyper! I miss her already! :*( She was called "Stickers" because that is what Sally calls Lightning McQueen on Cars, her favorite movie.
I learned new things about myself too! For example, I learned that I really dislike spending money. Also that I smell people to figure out who they are (Stickers came up behind me and put her hands over my eyes, and to figure out who she was, I said I had to smell her hand! I didn't even mean to say that, but it's true! People have different smells!)
Even with all of the great things though, there was one thing that sticks out as not so great. We went on a hike on Wednesday, and I only had one bottle of water for those two hours. I ended up not really drinking a lot that whole day. I got a really bad headache... reeeeally bad. My friend Lia also felt sick too. We both went down to Sic Narf (when I think of it, I think of "Sick Barf"... everyone laughs when I say this, although I'm only speaking truth) with Stickers and Red Chief said that we were dehydrated. Lia was a little bit worse than I was, because she got so bad that she got a fever, and somehow lost her voice (somehow I am now starting to lose my voice now, two days later). Red Chief made us both drink -no, CHUG- a Gatorade and then another bottle of water! Then we both took naps, because that is only natural when you are praying for your stomach to stay intact (it's kind of funny, because when we woke up a girl was being carried in by Ace with a sprained ankle *not the funny part* and asked us how long we had been in there. I answered, "Only a few minutes," which I actually believed, but in actuality we had been in there for over an hour!). Then we had to chug another bottle when we woke up! It was not pleasant to run to the bathroom every fifteen minutes praying to the Lonely Tree on the Hillside (In Lia's words, "Oh tree! Oh tree! Lonely Tree, save my pee!" Laughing at this did not help.) My advice on how to avoid this?? STAY TREEING HYDRATED!! I still have a bad headache... go away, headache!
Yes, I will say "treeing". It's OakApprop, okay? We were not allowed to say replacement words for swear words, especially not the word itself! That means you cannot say "freaking". So we have replacement replacement words! Lia and I's word of choice was "tree"... I will probably be saying it forever.
Wow, this post ended up being much longer than I expected! Oh well, how else to make up for five days gone?
Sounds like you had a good time. Too bad you got dehydrated. From your post, I get that you don't like Gatorade. I don't like it that much.
ReplyDeleteNo, actually, I like Gatorade... just not grape flavored, chugged! (Grape tastes like medicine.) :P Egh! How can dehydration make you lose your voice days later!!??
ReplyDeleteI have no idea.
