I just got home! My parents, my sister Lexie, and my aunt, her two sons, and another relative were going to go watch the fireworks that were scheduled to be shot off tonight at a park. My aunt Andrea's son Jonathan (3) doesn't like the loud noises, so we went far away to an elementary school so he wouldn't get scared.
We were all talking and playing "the hat game" when my dad spots a fire engine coming. We were just joking around saying that they were going to turn into the school parking lot and get us in trouble. They did! At least, they came into the parking lot. At this point, Alex (5) was very happy, since he lives across from a fire station and loves fire engines. They got out and told us that they were just going to be there so that they would be closer if there was an emergency. While they were waiting around, they were really nice and let Alex and Jonathan play in the fire engine. It was funny to hear them all talking about the lights and the radio.
At this point, I was secretly thrilled too, because I love fire engines. You have to admit it, fire fighters are awesome!
They got a message that the fireworks were off, so we were going to leave. It was a little hard to get Alex and Jon out of the engine though!
Lexie got embarrassed somewhat, because for some reason she feels weird waving to people. I don't! I got them to wave at us five times! We even drove behind it part of the way home, and I waved at them at a stop light (I found out as we drove behind it that it was South Jordan Engine 65.). Ha ha! I love fire engines!
After that, I was a little hyper, due to my giddiness, and Lexie must have caught it, because she copied me all the way home. So, I thought, why not dance? Lexie got a workout!
Fire fighting: My secret obsession...
Did you know that there is a difference between a fire engine and a fire truck? A fire truck has one of the ladders attached that can go up many many stories of a building, while a fire engine has manual ladders. Did you know that most fire fighters are trained paramedics? Paramedics have to be able to do their stuff in any sort of situation. Some would think that a trained doctor would do better than them, but a doctor is used to a controlled sterile environment, so they don't do so well on the street! Go paramedics! Did you know that the fire fighters in some stations cook meals for each other? And that different shifts in some stations have different refrigerators? Okay, that stuff isn't so hard core awesome... but hey, it's still sort of interesting! Go fire fighters!
